Burning FAQ
The LDJ A-Maize-Ing Heat boiler is manufactured as a variable rate 165,000 BTU model. Each system is made as a stand alone heating appliance or as an addition to your current boiler. The LDJ boiler operates similar to many other boilers on the market other than the fact that it burns a solid fuel. The model is tested and listed by Underwriters Laboratories (UL) and operates at an 85% heating efficiency.
The storage hopper for the system holds 14 bushels of fuel. On average, the hopper will last 5-10 days, depending upon the area that is being heated.
Boiler - Back View
The LDJ boiler vessel is an 18 gallon ASME certified tank. A triple aquastat controls the temperature of the water in the tank to maintain 180°F. When the water temperature drops, the aquastat tells the burn system to operate in high fire mode until 180°F water is achieved. The boiler then cycles to a low pilot idle flame.
The burn system of the LDJ A-Maize-Ing Heat boiler is the same as the furnace. Fuel is fed into the bottom of a cast iron burn pot. The fuel continually pushes up, and residual ash is boiled over the side. The ash then falls into the ash pan below the burn pot. On average, the ash pan is emptied once a week.
When the aquastat calls for heat, the LDJ boiler will operate in its high fire mode. During this time, the dual auger system will deliver fuel from the hopper into the bottom of the cast iron burn pot. The combustion blower will feed air into the burn pot for efficient consumption of the fuel.
When the aquastat is satisfied, the system will shut down and operate in a low fire mode. During this time, fuel will be fed in short increments to maintain the fire in the burn pot. The system will operate in this mode until the aquastat again calls for heat.
Typically, you will empty your ash pan once a week or once every hopper fill. There is no need to shut the system down. Once the unit is lit at the beginning of the season, it stays lit until the heating season is complete.
Either model can be used to also heat domestic hot water during the heating season. You can order your LDJ boiler with a domestic water coil, or install a side arm application.
Corn Furnace/Corn Boiler Product Information
Efficient Heating Alternative:
..a highly efficient concept, biomass heat. In times of highly uncertain energy costs it makes sense to use a heat source that utilizes a source that is renewable, readily available, and cost effective. The LDJ A-Maize-Ing Heat ® furnace and boiler burn shelled corn, wheat, barley, milo, cherry pits, grain sorghum, wood pellets, and many other bio products.
Efficient Self Cleaning Unit:
The LDJ A-Maiz-Ing Heat ® units feed the fuel into the bottom of a 5/8-inch thick cast iron burn pot, therefore providing the most efficient fuel consumption. The residual ash then spills over the top of the burn pot into an ash pan for easy removal. This process, in effect, self cleans the combustion chamber.
Thermostatically Controlled:
Your home’s thermostat electronically controls the fast feed system and blower to provide a constantly comfortable living environment. The unit will remain lit as long as the bin contains fuel and will shut down automatically if the fuel supply is depleted The corn furnace and corn boiler storage bin holds 14 bushels of corn which is automatically fed into the combustion chamber as needed.
Advantage over Wood:
The A-Maiz-Ing Heat ® biomass system has many advantages over wood heat. Along with the thermostatic control, the low stack temperatures and the absence of creosote buildup eliminates the possibility of chimney files. There is no daily maintenance. Also with the available 100,000 or 165,000 variable rate BTU models you can easily heat an entire home or shop. The use of these biomass fuels eliminates the mess of bark, insects, splinters, and storage handling problems associated with wood heat. No chainsaws, wood splinters, or trailers to buy and maintain either.
Quality Construction:
The LDJ A-Maiz-Ing Heat ® units feature quality construction for long lasting performance. 14 gauge steel is used on the heat exchanger and a 5/8-inch thick cast iron burn pot insures long life. A one-year warranty is included on parts and a five year limited warranty oin the burner and heat exchanger.
Environmentally Friendly:
The LDJ A-Maiz-Ing Heat ® systems utilize a fuel source that is renewable and locally produces. It also emits, when burned, an exchange of carbon monoxide equal to what was taken from the environment in the production of the biomass fuel. There is no harmful carbon monoxide emitted in the process
UL Listed:
Every The LDJ A-Maiz-Ing Heat ® unit has the current UL listing. The original A-maiz-ing Heat biomass systems were the first corn-fired units to be listed by the Underwriters Laboratories. Using the dial auger drive system to meter the fuel allow for precise and safe control of combustion. Every change or update LDJ has made has gone through the UL testing and has been approved. LDJ’s UL listing assures a safe and quality product to ever consumer. |
